If you’re a history buff, then Riverside District would be your stomping grounds. With over 5,000 historical buildings it is one of the most preserved historical neighborhoods in The United States. It is also well known for the Riverside Arts Market and the Cummer Museum of Art and Garden. Since art is on your mind the first Wednesday of each month, you can indulge in the Downtown Art Walk. Fifteen block radius which features 30 or so galleries, live music, food and drink, and work from local artists.
After you leave the Downtown Art walk you must be for more Art; stop by the Museum of Contemporary Arts. It’s the largest in Southeast United State and across from the cities first park Hemming Plaza. The museum tour doesn’t stop there, next will be The Museum of Science and History . The museum has 7 permanent exhibits, a planetarium and one exhibit that rotates throughout the country. This is a must for children and so is Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens which features over 2,000 animals over 110 acres.
The Friendship Fountain is home to many first dates and kisses. Many locals say the fountain produces special powers, but you can be the judge of that when you check it out. Friendship Fountain was built in 1941 and was consider the largest in the world. After romancing your loved one or just hanging with friends, the St. John’s River is the next marvel in Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Landing is a great place to walk alongside its waters, catch a boat ride, have dinner, and even do some shopping. The Landing is also a popular hangout following Jaguars games and features 300 to 400 special events each year.
Before you hangout at Jacksonville Landing you have to catch the game at EverBank Field, the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars. EverBank is also the site of the widely popular annual game of Florida vs. Georgia game and a few other annual events, such as concerts and outdoor sporting events.
