Bee Smart About HERS

HERS Index – The Lower The Number The Better!

The HERS (Home Energy Rating System) Index was established in 2006 by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET), the national association of home energy raters and energy-efficiency mortgage lenders, as an industry standard for measuring the efficiency of a new home.

It is also the nationally recognized system for calculating the energy performance of a home. Homes that score a 70 or lower on the HERS Index Scale (illustrated left) have superior energy performance compared to a standard home.

The U.S. Department of Energy has determined that a typical resale home scores 130 on the HERS Index, while a standard new home is awarded a rating of 100. Maronda Homes has a HERS Index score between 50 and 60 — that is up to 40 percent more energy efficient than a standard new home.

Benefits of HERS Index Energy Rating with Maronda Homes

Maronda Homes’ BEE Smart Energy Program provides more value for today and a better investment in your tomorrow.

  • Helps you calculate the true cost of home ownership (it’s not just all about mortgage payments!)
  • Each 1 point decrease in the HERS Index corresponds to a 1% reduction in energy consumption compared to a HERS Reference Home
  • Our average home has a HERs Index between 50 and 60. That’s at least 35-40% better than the average home built to code
  • Puts you on the path to increasing your home’s resale value
  • Improve the overall comfort of your home
  • Shows you how to reduce your energy bills
