Builders in Volusia and Flagler counties say their sales of new homes have been picking up. The reasons, area builders say, include the improving economy, the recent Parade of Homes™ events put on by the respective builders associations for the two counties, and, in Volusia, the recently implemented two-year moratorium on school impact fees for new construction. “In our area, new home construction is definitely picking up,” said Diana Janzen, a real estate agent with Adams, Cameron & Co. Realtors in Ormond Beach. Sandy Bishop, executive officer for the Volusia Building Industry Association, said her member builders have been reporting an increase in contracts for new homes, several of which were the direct result of their participation in the association’s 2012 Parade of Homes™, which began March 17 and ran through April 1. Debi Peterson, executive officer for the Flagler Home Builders Association, which held its annual Flagler Parade of Homes™ at the same time as the Volusia event, said her member builders also have been reporting a “steady increase” in sales “that we hope will continue.”
