Cincinnati Commuter Guide: Best Suburbs for Downtown Workers

by Alexandra Sobek

Looking for the perfect Maronda Homes Community that provides an easier, less stressful commute to Downtown? In Cincinnati, the “commuter’s secret” is the Ohio River bridges. Your commute will vary wildly depending on whether you are crossing from Kentucky or staying on the Ohio side. If you’re looking for a Maronda Homes community with the most efficient path to the Great American Ball Park and the Central Business District, you’ve got some great options.

We’ve compiled a list of our communities in these areas to help make your dreams of owning a new home while having a simplified daily routine a reality.

The “Inner Circle” (Closest Proximity)

These communities are essentially a straight shot into the city, keeping your commute under 20 minutes on a good day.

Birkdale (Mariemont Area/Fairfax):

    • Commute: 8–15 minutes.

    • The Route: Direct access via US-50 (Columbia Parkway).

    • Why it wins: It is arguably the best-located Maronda community for a Downtown worker. You skip the major interstate congestion entirely and take one of the most scenic river-view drives into the city.

North Ridge (Colerain):

    • Commute: 15–20 minutes.

    • The Route: A straight shot down I-275 to I-74.

    • Why it wins: You are positioned away from the heavy I-71/I-75 North “bottleneck” that plagues commuters coming from Mason or West Chester.

The “Kentucky Shortcut” (Northern KY)

Many Cincinnati professionals prefer the Kentucky side because the commute is often shorter than coming from the far northern Ohio suburbs.

Hickory Valley (Independence, KY):

    • Commute: 20–25 minutes.

    • The Route: Direct access to I-75 North or the KY-17 (Madison Pike) bypass.

    • Why it wins: You have two ways into the city. If I-75 is backed up at the Brent Spence Bridge, you can navigate through Covington and take the Roebling Suspension Bridge or the Taylor Southgate Bridge as a backup.

Valley Creek Farms (Burlington, KY):

    • Commute: 20–25 minutes.

    • The Route: I-275 East to I-71/75 North.

    • Why it wins: It’s perfectly placed for hybrid workers who also need quick access to the CVG Airport (only 12 minutes away).

The “Suburban Straight-Shot” (West & East Ohio)

Indian Walk (Cleves/Miami Heights):

    •  Commute: 20–25 minutes.

    • The Route: I-74 East or the scenic US-50 West.

    • Why it wins: You’re coming from the West Side, which generally experiences less “white-knuckle” traffic than the Northern I-75 corridor.

Woodhall Crossing (Goshen):

    • Commute: 30–35 minutes.

    • The Route: I-275 to US-50.

    • Why it wins: This is the best “bang for your buck” if you want a newer, more affordable community while staying within a 35-minute radius of the city.

Ready to find your dream home and simplify your commute? Many of these communities are close to selling out – don’t miss your chance to secure your home in one of Cincinnati’s commuter-friendly suburbs.
