Jefferson Hills offers a balanced suburban experience that is defined by a strong community identity, high-performing schools, and a rugged, hilly landscape. It is a place where family life is at the forefront, anchored by the academic and athletic prestige of the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars and a relatively affordable housing market. It’s a stable, quiet community ideal for those who prioritize a “Friday Night Lights” culture and modern amenities—like the new high school and Jefferson Hospital—while accepting a slower pace and a standard South Hills commute.
If the location of these communities is not your ideal location, Maronda Homes is also building:
It feels like a mix of suburban development and rugged terrain. It is a “work-hard, play-hard” kind of town where residents are deeply loyal to the local community. It doesn’t have a traditional downtown; instead, it is a collection of winding, hilly residential roads and quiet cul-de-sacs.
The cost of living in Jefferson Hills is widely considered “middle-of-the-road” for the Pittsburgh region—more affordable than elite South Hills neighbors like Upper St. Clair or Peters Township, but higher than more industrial neighbors like Clairton.
It is excellent and a major source of community pride. The Thomas Jefferson (TJ) Jaguars are legendary in Western PA for their football program, but the district also ranks highly for academics (consistently in the top 15–20 in the Pittsburgh region). The high school building itself is modern, having opened its doors only a few years ago.
Route 51 is the primary artery, and it is famously frustrating. It’s a “stop-and-go” highway filled with traffic lights. Expect a 40–50 minute commute to Downtown during peak hours. On the plus side, the Mon-Fayette Expressway extension project (ongoing in 2026) aims to eventually improve regional connectivity.
Most of the commercial action is technically in neighboring Pleasant Hills along Route 51. You’ll find every major chain (Target, Home Depot, Chick-fil-A) there. Within Jefferson Hills, the scene is more limited to local favorites like Donte’s Pizzeria or dining near the Jefferson Hospital complex.
It takes approximately 6 – 12 months to build your new home in Jefferson Hills with Maronda Homes. Disclaimer: Build times are subject to change at any time for any reason.
