The Maronda Insider: Part 2, Stair Build System
Closed Captioning: Okay, we’re here in our North Warehouse building on our 35-acre campus. This is where we construct our stairs. Currently right now this is a stair system for a Carlisle that’s being moved and was just constructed here getting ready for shipping. We also have some constructed house stairs in that area, and we have multiple different prepping areas for it. The enclosed area here allows us to keep much more control with sanding and finishing because these are for an exterior product. This house stair system is built through a router where it creates mortises and and we then flip the components that are pre-cut into the side treads and then we wedge and glue, creating a wonderfully tight square stair system which is perfect every time – can’t be anything different.
There’s a multitude of components here that we utilize in order to fabricate these stairs. In Maronda efficiency, we take our wood blocks that we cut out of scrap and we even make our own wedges here, which we pass that savings along to the homeowner because we take that in-house and make everything. This is our wedge cutter that we have, this is our router system that cuts out the treads. So when the treads come in here, we cut both top and bottom at the same time, then top and bottom are exactly together. It follows along the jig on the top so it can’t be anything different than what it is. where commonly site built stairs had multitude of different variations, and stairs is the one thing that needs to be perfect. Maronda uses construction adhesive in every aspect of their stair build, this prevents squeaks, also it allows you to have a much tighter stair system. If you look at the sides and the routed, that’s your finished area where it’s just to be painted. That’s another thing that Maronda does, we utilize jigs. The jigs allow us to go ahead and put everything in its right orientation and configuration so we are sure that we are correct. El here is going to help Kim put the rest of the components in to show exactly how the stairs come in there. So this is our tread that we utilize, engineered material, so that engineered material is a much more stable component that’s not going to have a ton of movement.
Right now we have all the stair treads in. El’s taking a bullnose and a top tread that we nail into the stair system that completes off the component. This is our foot, these are all pre-sanded components, and it will be covered with carpet.
So El is putting on wood glue again to prevent any squeaks, and make a much tighter drum. So now El will use the clamping system to pull it tight, and it’s pulling up the very bottom. So we have glued and wedged, the rides are in. This shows the quality difference of Maronda compared to our competitors, where we take the time to make sure your stair is right. We take pride in what we do here.
